Our origin
Blue Forge grew from a research partnership between Prof. Juchen Guo (UC Riverside) and Prof. Rob Messinger (The City College of New York). Building upon our shared research in rechargeable aluminum batteries, we combined our expertise in chemical engineering, materials science, and physical chemistry to develop a fundamentally new approach to Li-ion battery recycling.
Locations
Blue Forge is based in New York, NY.
Meet Our Team
__________

Rob Messinger, Ph.D.
CEO & Co-Founder
Rob is a co-founder of Blue Forge and an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at The City College of New York (CCNY), where he investigates electrochemical systems and chemical processes for energy storage and recycling. His expertise spans emerging battery chemistries, from novel aluminum batteries to advanced lithium batteries for robotic spacecraft, and new recycling processes for lithium-ion batteries and rare earth elements. Rob uses advanced characterization, especially nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, to understand and engineer these systems across scales. He has led centers and teams in discovering and developing new technologies.

Juchen Guo, Ph.D.
President & Co-Founder
Juchen is a co-founder of Blue Forge and a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), where he studies and develops new battery and battery recycling concepts. Juchen is an expert in innovative chemical methods for battery recycling, as well as in advanced batteries including Li-ion, Li-sulfur, and multivalent chemistries (e.g., aluminum and magnesium). He is an expert in materials and electrochemical characterization, as well as interfacial engineering. At UCR, Juchen chairs the Materials Science & Engineering program and co-directs the Winston Chung Global Energy Center.
